Car Crash at Woodbine & Queen

May 25, 2015 in Neighbourhood Alerts Blog

A car collision this morning halted traffic at Woodbine & Queen. Thankfully, there were no casualties and the crash did not take place during morning rush hour where dozens of children gather every morning to wait for the green light to cross the street. We can’t sit back and expect the safety of this intersection to get better, an email with photos of today’s crash has been sent our city councillor, Mary Margaret McMahon. Two things have been asked: the reduction of speed on Woodbine from Kingston to Lakeshore from 50km to 40km; and for police enforcement of the existing 40km zone on Queen Street. If you have any other ideas to help make this intersection and our community safer, please send your suggestions to our city councillor.CarCrash1 CarCrash2

Young Female Accosted

February 20, 2015 in Neighbourhood Alerts Blog, Neighbourhood Watch Blog

This is a report from a Woodbine Park resident regarding an incident earlier this week:

My daughter is home from University for Reading Week. She went out to

see a friend and was coming home around 11:45 by bus. She got off on

Lakeshore (at the foot of Joseph Duggan) and was accosted by a man who

proceded to follow her home. She was very afraid and didn’t want him to

know where she lived so she walked a different way and headed to Queen

at a fast pace. He kept asking her questions such as “where do you

live” “do you live with your family” and told her that he had drugs and

$20,000 in his pockets and that he needed somewhere to hide it. She

managed to ditch him on Queen but came home by a circuitous route just to be safe.

She was terrified. We called the police at 12:30 am and they sent a car

to search the area. They also stopped several west-bound streetcars as

she thought he might have got on a streetcar going that direction. She

was able to give the police a fairly good description of the man.

Please pass this along as I know there are lots of area kids and

residents who are out at that hour and who use the TTC. I often walk my

dog later at night by myself. I will ensure that my kids use a buddy

system from now on.

Illegal Camping in Woodbine Park

September 23, 2014 in Latest Community News Blog, Neighbourhood Alerts Blog

This report is from a Woodbine Park resident. The local councillor has been notified. It would help if more residents called City Hall to get this rectified. 416-392-1376:

There seems to be someone sleeping in the bushes in Woodbine park and they have been rough camping there for a while now.

There is a mattress, empty food containers and quite a lot of garbage, including human waste. Not very pleasant. I hope this can be removed. It’s in the area indicated below, the “camp” can be accessed from the path just south of the circle as a temporary path has been trodden down in the bushes.
